Church Membership Covenant

“You are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household.”  — Ephesians 2:19

Welcome to Faith Bible Baptist Church. In becoming a member of this community, you are joining the whole people of God (λαός, laos) — called not merely to attend, but to belong, to serve, and to participate in God’s mission together. Membership at FBBC is not a passive status, but a joyful commitment to walk alongside one another as the body of Christ, each contributing according to their gifts, calling, and season of life.

Before God and this community, I make the following covenant commitments:

PART 1 — MY FAITH & CALLING

I affirm and embrace the following:

Faith in Christ Romans 10:9; Eph 2:8–9	I trust in Jesus Christ alone for my salvation and seek to grow as his disciple in every area of life, from Monday to Saturday, not only on Sundays.
My identity as God’s people 1 Peter 2:9–10; Eph 1:11–12	I understand that as a member of this church I am part of God’s chosen people — his clergy (klēros) and his laos — called first to belong to him, and through him, to one another.
God’s mission Matthew 28:19–20; Micah 6:8	I embrace God’s holistic mission: both the proclamation of the gospel and the demonstration of his kingdom through acts of love, justice and service in the world.

PART 2 — MY COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY

In relation to my brothers and sisters at FBBC, I commit to:

Regular participation Hebrews 10:24–25	Prioritise gathering with the church community for worship, learning, prayer and fellowship, and to invest in the relationships that make us a genuine community.
Honesty & loyalty Eph 4:25; Proverbs 11:13	Be truthful and honest in my communication, loyal in my support of fellow members, and avoid gossip, triangulation, or behind-the-back criticism.
Confidentiality Proverbs 17:9	Keep confidential things shared with me in the context of a trusting community, sharing the impact on me without revealing what has been disclosed.
Care & encouragement Galatians 6:2; 1 Thess 5:11	Actively support and care for fellow members — being aware of personal pressures and family situations — and purposefully encourage others in their growth and calling.
Prayer James 5:16; Phil 4:6	Pray regularly for fellow members and for the church’s mission, interceding for family, personal and ministry needs.
Accountability Proverbs 27:17	Be accountable to this community in developing a balanced lifestyle, fulfilling my responsibilities to the church, and maintaining spiritual health.

PART 3 — MY COMMITMENT TO SERVICE

As a member of the body of Christ, I commit to:

Discovering my gifts Romans 12:4–8; 1 Cor 12:7	Actively seek to understand my God-given gifts, talents, life experiences, passions, and the season of life I am in, so that I may serve according to how God has made me.
Contributing to the mission Eph 4:11–13; 1 Peter 4:10	Contribute to the mission of the church — both inside and outside of Sunday gatherings — as ministry and mission are the calling of the whole people of God.
Generosity 2 Cor 9:7; Malachi 3:10	Contribute financially to the life and mission of the church in accordance with biblical principles of generosity and good stewardship.
Supporting leaders Hebrews 13:17; Eph 4:12	Respect and support the elders, deacons, and other ministry leaders as they equip the whole body for service — understanding their role is to empower, not to be the sole ministers.

PART 4 — MY COMMITMENT TO PEACE & UNITY

In times of tension or conflict within our community, I commit to:

Accept conflict Romans 14:1–8; 15:1–7	Acknowledge that conflict is a normal part of community life — arising from different needs, values, and viewpoints — and approach it as something to be worked through, not avoided.
Go directly Matthew 18:15–20; Galatians 6:1	Go directly to the person with whom I am in conflict, avoiding behind-the-back criticism or becoming passive-aggressive, in a spirit of gentleness, patience, and humility.
Seek forgiveness Ephesians 4:32; Col 3:13	Be prepared to offer a sincere apology for any hurt I have caused and to seek forgiveness. I will also be prepared to receive an apology and offer forgiveness as it is requested.
Be quick to listen James 1:19; Proverbs 18:13	Listen carefully before responding, seeking to understand as much as to be understood, and avoid making assumptions about others’ motives.
Guard my words Eph 4:15, 29; James 3:5	Avoid sharp or hurtful comments, labelling, and words that carry negative connotations, and instead speak truth in love.
Seek help when needed Philippians 4:2–3; Acts 15	Be open to skilled mediation and, if we cannot reach agreement, be willing to invite wise members of our community to help guide us to reconciliation.

MY AFFIRMATION

Having prayerfully considered these commitments, and trusting in God’s grace to sustain me, I gladly enter into this covenant with Faith Bible Baptist Church. I understand that membership involves both privileges and responsibilities, and I commit to living these out in dependence on the Holy Spirit and in community with my brothers and sisters in Christ.
